Marler described the retouching in the upper right: "...there is a strong horizontal line extending from the 'N' in Canada to the right side of the frame."
Comments
Marler states that sheet Plate 12 was also used to print coil stamps - Marler Type SRO4. This variety has also been found as a coil, which would confirm his comments.
It is worth noting that the title "Plate 12" was assigned to both a plate for printing sheet stamps and to another for printing coil stamps.
Leo's Notes
- UR vertical line retouched from top to line 5.
- Top five horizontal lines retouched from the crown to the UR vertical line.
- Right frame slightly thicker at the top.
Horizontal line from the left outer oval to the right frame. The line goes through:
- the “v” formed by the intersection of the left and diagonal members of the N in CANADA;
- the King’s forehead;
- and the middle of the A in POSTAGE.
Similar line on 12UL93. The stamp is not retouched, and the line is slightly higher up.
